LogPile 1.1.2

LogPile is a handy utility for viewing and printing OS X's system-level logs and application crash logs. It provides users a simple find and filter feature for basic data-mining operations of said logs. Users can also use LogPile to clear the contents of a specified application log. Currently, LogPile will not clear the contents of an OS X system log due to a permissions problem. This shall be addressed in future releases.

Version 1.1.2 is a maintenance only release. No new features have been added. Instead much of the focus has been placed on improving LogPile's performance and reliability when displaying/processing log entries. Also, a number of significant bugs were addressed in this release.

LogPile is designed to complement (if not, replace) MacOS X's Console utility application. It is also designed for a user with administrative privileges. For security reasons, it should not be used when logged in as 'root'.

- complete rewrite of the log-reading thread code. This rewrite also removes the 512 KByte performance limit.
- perfomance improvements to the display code used for displaying log entries in hierarchical mode.
- a new preferences sub-directory is now used for storing LogPile's preferences file (and subsequent support files).
- fixed the bug preventing users from deleting certain application crash logs.
- fixed a bug where switching from one large log file to another prevents the display of log entries from the second file.
- fixed a bug where expanding a level-1 hierarchical log entry would display the incorrect log sub-entries.
- added support for copying multiple log entry selections to the system clipboard or dragging said selections either to the Desktop or to a drag-'n-drop capable MacOS X application.
- added support for the Notification Manager to the printing/saving routines.
- added support for a [TAB]/[SHIFT-TAB] keyboard shortcut to the preferences window (registered version only).
- yet more user-interface tweaks.
