backup_segment 0.1

Download: gzipped tar archive

backup_segment is freeware; it is a simple command-line (Terminal) program that segments a hard drive or filesystem into gzipped tar files ready for burning to CDs. Backups can be complete or incremental.

Normally it is difficult to create multi-segment compressed tar files. This program does it by compressing the files individually, measuring their compressed size, and finally creating complete segments based on the sum of the compressed file sizes.
